Issue No.15: Update on construction mobilisation of EnviRecover
Work commenced. in early June, on the erection of steel support structures and the installation of the main elements of process plant. To date, the furnace grate and ash handling systems, feed hopper, pre-heater and process water tanks have all been installed.
Work continues on the construction of the administration block. On site preassembly of the plant boiler and heat recovery systems is in progress, and these elements will be progressively lifted into place over the next few months.
The foundations and support structures for the turbine and power generation and control buildings have been completed. Further work to the bunker is in progress to enable the waste handling cranes and support structures to be installed, and also in preparation for construction of the waste tipping hall floor. The western ‘up’ ramp has been completed, and work on the eastern ‘down’ ramp will commence subject to on site access arrangements – as space permits.
In a change to the contract management structure, main contractor Hitachi Zosen Inova has advised that the services of the civil engineering subcontractor Interserve Construction Limited have been brought to an end.
Alternative arrangements for the remainder of the civil engineering works are being put in place. The latest meeting of the Community Liaison Group was held on 13 July. Minutes of this meeting will be uploaded onto the Severn Waste web site shortly.
