Update from HZI - Mercia EnviRecover CLG meeting 7
Construction progress has been maintained according to the planned schedule. In the last two weeks, there have been some minor delays due to high winds preventing the use of the cranes.
Overview of main tasks achieved and being under progress:
The turbine and electricity generator has been delivered and installed, within the completed turbine hall. Substantial progress was made to the installation of the boiler, which is expected to be pressure tested before Christmas 2015. The bunker is currently being excavated to the design level nine metres below the boiler floor. This work is being carried out 24/7, by agreement with Worcestershire Regulatory Services. The excavated soil is intermediately stored at site (night shift) and removed during daytime in order to prevent bulk truck traffic going on during the nights.
Several other work packages are in progress in parallel with the preparation of the boiler, e.g. connecting pipework, insulation, electrical works, and preparation for installation of storage silos.
Work continues on the construction of the crane beam at the top of the bunker, in preparation for the arrival and installation of the waste cranes.
Beyond the site boundary, Western Power Distribution have been installing the power export cabling from the Trading Estate to the 66 KV overhead distribution circuit to the south.
As per nature of the progress on site the manpower was steadily increased. Currently around 290 people are working on site.
The works to the bunker and the building structure is being progressed with high priority. It is hoped to close main sections within this year, with the main tower crane removed before Christmas. The manpower will further increase but the project is close to the peak.
In early 2016 the building enclosure will be completed. From that time on the focus of the works will take place within the buildings, and the remaining civil works for the infrastructure (roadways, drainage etc.)
