Issue No.24: Update on construction mobilisation of EnviRecover
The phase of facility commissioning involving blowing steam through the boiler has been completed.
We apologise that many local residents did not receive our advance warning information leaflet on this activity, and that the steam blowing has caused concern and disturbance to some of our neighbours, who have let us know of their feelings.
We confirm that this activity will not be repeated, and does not reflect the normal conditions when the facility is operating.
The next phase in commissioning will be reconnecting the steam pipework to the electricity generating turbine, and preparation for the first receipt of waste into the plant which is scheduled for mid-September. The first waste will be combusted on the grate towards the end of that month, building up within weeks to the normal operating input level.
In preparation for first receipt of waste, outstanding civil works to drainage, roadways and weighbridge office continue. It should also be noted that all emissions control and monitoring systems have to be in place before waste can be fired at the
Please also note that we now have a full plant operational team on site who are undergoing training and familiarisation. This team are Severn Waste Services employees and will take over the operation of the site from the main contractor at facility handover.
